Classes are limited to 5 students per class, so I can give everyone personal attention. The course is 6 sessions, of 3 hours each, held once a week. The course will take you from creating your wax model to the final finishing techniques in the metal.
We will explore layout, design, and wax modelmaking techniques to create your original designs, both for production and custom jewelry. I will take you through the basic skills you need to carve, form, build up, fabricate, drill, saw, and melt wax to produce finished models. I have designed a series of skill-building projects for students who are interested in becoming a professional wax carver, as well as playful, fun projects for the hobbyist. All levels of skills are welcome, as I can customize a program for your individual interests.
The price of the 6-week course (18 hours) is $380 plus a $20 materials fee. You can save 10% if you introduce a friend to my class, and it makes it even more fun. Because of the small class size, there are no refunds if you withdraw less than 3 weeks before the first class.
When you finish your wax models, I will send them to my caster. You will pay for the metal (sterling silver or gold), casting, shipping, and insurance at my wholesale cost; I make no profit on the castings. This alone can be worth the price of the class.
If you wish to practice at home, I will give you a list of the tools you need. You can purchase them, or you can borrow them from me for a deposit of $100; the full deposit will be refunded when the tools are returned.
I also offer private instruction in the jewelry arts at $55 per hour, or a 10-hour package at $445 plus a $20 studio/materials fee. Private instruction is tailored to the specific skills you want to learn, and fit your schedule.
Cloisonné Enamel Class
Periodically, I offer a weekend workshop in cloisonné enameling. Class size limited to 5 students. The instruction will be 14 hours with a prepared lunch. Hours from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The price of the workshop is $295 plus a $20 materials fee. All supplies included. You do not need to bring anything except your joy and creativity to class.
Please contact me for class schedules, to inquire about private instruction, or for other information.
I have experienced much joy and satisfaction in the 40 years I have been creating jewelry in the metal arts, and I know you will have a fun-filled learning experience using your innate creativity and working with your hands to make beautiful, original jewelry in precious metal that will last forever.
